What is Stem Cell Therapy?

The goal of stem cell therapy is to use healthy stem cells found in the body to replace or activate your body’s own stem cells at an injured site. When you have damaged tissue anywhere in your body, the damaged tissue lets off signals to attract your body’s own stem cells. Unfortunately, as you age, the number of stem cells in your body significantly decreases and the potency of those stem cells also significantly decreases, which can result in a dramatic decrease in your healing ability. Stem Cell Therapy introduces large amounts of regenerative factors to the injured tissue to substantially increase your body’s healing potential and ability. This injection of stem cells and various other growth factors is believed to activate your body’s own stem cells to start healing the injured tissue. The stem cells may be harvested from the patient or from a donor. Once they have been safely extracted, they are reinjected back into the body to rebuild properly functioning tissues.

A stem cell is unique because of its ability to turn into any type of cell in your body.  It can divide, multiply, renew, and regenerate. These cells don’t carry out specialized functions like brain cells, red blood cells, or white blood cells, but they are the most vital component in repairing and replacing damaged or torn tissue. They are the essential building blocks of life.

What are the different types of stem cells?

There are three types of stem cells that may be used in stem cell therapy. They differ in their harvesting location (where they are found) as well as their functions and abilities. When harvesting stem cells, many other healing substances are also collected.   These include growth factors, growth hormones, cytokines, and proteins.

Frequently Asked Questions from our patients

Below are some questions that we have received from our patients. If you don't see an answer to your question, please give us a call at 844-ME-AGAIN (632-4246).

How do the stem cells know where to go and what to grow?

When our tissue is damaged it gives off things called Cytokines. Cytokines act like little beacons to attract the stem cells to that tissue. In fact, we have heard of numerous instances when a patient has a Stem Cell procedure done and another area of their body also heals.

What things do you treat in your office with stem cells?

At Stem Cell Centers we currently treat patients with back pain, Spinal Disc problems, chronic joint pain, osteoarthritis, neuropathy, COPD plus many other conditions.

Are stem cells safe?

Yes, stem cells are immuno-privileged which means they will not cause an adverse reaction or rejection to the body. There are no known side effects!

What is the different between stem cell therapy and other treatments like replacements, partial replacements, joint resurfacing etc...?

The biggest difference is that this treatment can be “curative” in nature. Every other type of drug or treatment is “masking” the symptoms. The most obvious difference is safety of this treatment versus anything else.

  • You are not in a hospital subjected to “super germs”
  • There is no risky surgery being done or anesthesia.
  • There is no six weeks of bed rest or “light duty”.
  • Our procedure takes less than a half hour and is done in our clinic.

Note: It is recommended that you take it easy for 2 days after the procedure.

What makes Stem Cell Centers unique and a better choice than most other stem cell treatment centers around the country?

We work with people who are experiencing chronic pain on a daily basis and have treated thousands of patients. All of our treatment protocols are based on research that is proven to work. Stem Cell Centers also offers all 3 different types of stem cells so we can use the best one for your problem. We are not limited to just one type of Stem Cell like most other clinics. We are a network of some of the top doctors around the country, continuously sharing the knowledge we gain by treating many patients each day.

If the patient gets better, how long do the results last for?

As long as the root cause of your problem is addressed your healing should be long term. Because stem cell therapy is still a fairly new treatment, research shows that results can last up to and beyond five years. There are many variables that determine how long the results of a stem cell injection will last for. Results will also vary from person to person and depend on a variety of factors including, diet, exercise, lifestyle choices, etc…

At what point should a patient explore this option, and at what point is it too late?

The great news is that our research shows that is never too late. Most chronic pain conditions slowly get worse over time, not better. For this reason, we encourage patients not to continue to suffer and come and have their problem treated to get them out of the suffering and pain. We have treated patients from 16 -102 years old and had the same great outcomes. Age does not seem to matter when it comes to stem cell therapy.

How long does it take to heal?

Healing can start as soon as you have had the treatment. It is not uncommon for patients to leave our office already feeling significantly better. The vast majority of healing happens within 6-9 months of the first treatment but research shows healing can continue for up to 2 years. On average our patients experience a 52% reduction in pain within the first two weeks of their treatment and continue to get better from there.

How much does it cost and is it covered by health insurance?

Cost depends on a patient’s specific problem, the number of joints/problems treated, the amount of stem cells needed and what type of stem cells are used. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover Stem Cell treatment at this time.
